About Primevue

Primevue is a family-owned and run business. We are a young Kiwi couple – Blair and Jess – excited about Queenstown’s building industry. We have focused our business on new homes, renovations, using alternative methods. We pride ourselves on it and believe it sets us apart from the competition.

We started Primevue in 2018 because we knew we could do better. We’ve been clients who built our own home through a large company. And I’m a builder myself, so we’ve been able to bring the two points of view together. It makes for great communication and an understanding of what our clients want.

Blair & Jess
The Primevue Team

As well as being a director, Blair works alongside his team on the tools and is a licensed building practitioner (LBP) and a Registered Master Builder. When you pick up the phone and call, you’ll speak with
Blair – who is also the guy on site 80% of the time. We are a small, close-knit team who share a passion for using and sourcing sustainable building materials to complement our projects.

Queenstown sees many transient people – they come and go because it’s a highly sought-after tourist destination. We’ve made the most of that in our business by helping trades along their journey with a work-life balance. We continually learn innovative approaches, expanding our knowledge and expertise – that’s what they leave with us.

WE EXPLORE NEW WAYS

At Primevue, we are always looking for ways to challenge the status quo by consistently exceeding standards and expectations in the construction industry. We like to use alternative methods, for instance, we’re the only Queenstown company with Formance SIPs (Structurally Insulated Panels).

We completed our personal home with Formance SIPs, some exposed and some paint-finished panels. We were extremely happy with the finished product as they’re extremely fast to install and are high-performing. Our team are now certified Formance installers. And that’s our methodology – to research, explore, test and only when we are thoroughly convinced, begin using the new product or approach for our clients.

Another example is when materials were hard to come by, and the supply of gib was halting many projects throughout the country. After much research and testing, we began using saveBOARD – low-carbon building materials made from upcycled packaging.

We attend industry conferences regularly to keep up with new and innovative products and methods. We obtain samples, do our research, and are often first to market with new products. Sustainable homes are on the rise; even banks are swinging towards lower interest rates to encourage these houses. The director, Blair, is working towards becoming a passive house certifier – he already has LPB and is a Master Builder, which gives assurance to developers, investors, owners, and banks.

How It Started

Blair has been a builder since he was a teenager and went on to become a foundation specialist (which is a huge advantage when working on the commonly steep sites in Queenstown).

When we did our own home, we noticed that no one was an employee – they were all contractors. They seemed to want to do the least amount of work for the most money, leading to poor-quality construction. They also had a very high staff turnover, and during our build, we went through four project managers, and then in the middle of it, the company went bust.

We started our own company in 2018, and then Covid hit. Our entire portfolio was wiped out, but we managed to keep all our staff at the time and were able to reinstate two of the projects. We worked through it, and it made us a hell of a lot stronger. We learned not to contract with anyone else, just to do our own work.

Our Capacity

We are very careful about how much work we take on to ensure everything we promise is achievable. We work with milestones and don’t stretch ourselves too thin. Milestones in a building project are significant events that mark a key point in the project’s progress: foundation pour, framing completion, roof installation, etc.
